Adult, Transfer, & Veteran Orientation

We recognize the educational and professional experience you have gained is valuable, therefore you are eligible to complete orientation through a variety of options that fit your needs and schedule.

We want to ensure we are supporting your successful transition to WSU, therefore orientation is required.

Adult Students, Transfer students, and student Veterans have three options for how to complete the New Coug Orientation requirement:

  1. Transfer Orientation | An immersive overnight 1.5 day program offered in June or July sessions.
  2. August Orientation | Express one-day sessions coinciding with move-in and Week of Welcome.
  3. Online Orientation | A live and interactive online session offered in June, July, or August.

Who is eligible?

Adult Students: Students who will be 25 or older by October 10, 2026.

Transfer Students: Any student who has completed college coursework (excluding summer) after high school graduation is considered a transfer student at WSU.

Student Veterans: Active duty, honorably discharged, and Veterans.

Option 1: Transfer Orientation

Transfer orientation is an immersive one and a half day program offered in June and July.

All students attending orientation must complete an advising consultation and course registration appointment online before arriving for orientation.

Before arriving for Orientation, please follow these steps:

  1. Confirm your enrollment at WSU.
  2. Register for New Coug Orientation session.
  3. Complete CougReady Step 1.*
  4. Identify an exception for or take any required placement assessments.
  5. Review your Transfer Credit Report (TCR) in MyWSU.
  6. Schedule and attend a remote, online advising consultation and course registration appointment.*

*CougReady Step 1 access and details to schedule your advising consultation will be emailed to you. CougReady Steps 2 and 3 will become available in July and August.

Option 2: August Orientation

August programs are express one-day programs focused on supporting international students, transfer students, student Veterans, and students who are unable to attend an immersive summer program in their transition to WSU.

August programs do not include Family & Supporter Orientation programming and guests cannot be accommodated. Supporters of students attending August orientation sessions are encouraged to take advantage of the summer webinar series.

All students attending August orientation must complete an advising consultation and course registration appointment online before arriving for orientation.

Option 3: Online Orientation

Online Orientation will be offered as a live session hosted via Zoom in June, July, or August. This unique, online experience will include both large-group activities and small-group time with your Orientation Leader — a current WSU student who will help you get connected and prepared for fall.

All students attending online orientation must complete an advising consultation and course registration appointment online 48 hours before their scheduled online orientation session.

Before your Online Orientation session, please follow these steps:

  1. Confirm your enrollment at WSU.
  2. Register for New Coug Orientation session.
  3. Complete CougReady Step 1.*
  4. Identify an exception for or take any required placement assessments.
  5. Review your Transfer Credit Report (TCR) in MyWSU.
  6. Schedule and attend a remote, online advising consultation and course registration appointment.*

*CougReady Step 1 access and details to schedule your advising consultation will be emailed to you. CougReady Steps 2 and 3 will become available in July and August.

Other requirements:

  • Attend your entire online session, camera on, and engaged
  • Attendees must participate in the College Kickoff for their college during Week of Welcome
  • Complete Steps 2 & 3 CougReady Modules
