About Ashlyn

Before going to orientation, I was worried about adjusting to life on my own and being away from my parents for the first time. Leaving home felt like a big step, especially since the drive to orientation was the farthest I had ever traveled on my own. While I was excited to start college, I was also nervous about navigating a new environment, meeting new people, and figuring out what life would look like away from home.

Orientation felt like the beginning of an entirely new chapter in my life. At the time, orientation was a three-day experience, and while it sometimes felt long and overwhelming, it provided me with so much valuable information and helped me feel more prepared for college. As the program went on, I became more comfortable with campus and started to picture myself as a WSU student. By the end of orientation, I felt excited about the opportunities ahead and confident in my decision to begin this next stage of my life.

I am now in my third year at WSU, and my college journey has led me in a direction that feels like the right fit for me. After my first semester, I changed my major from Math Education to Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education because I felt a much stronger passion and calling toward that field. Along the way, I have found a job doing something I enjoy at Todd Café, and I have gained valuable experiences both inside and outside the classroom. As I prepare for my student teaching experience next school year, I am excited to continue growing as an educator and taking the next steps toward my future career.
