About Yoshimi

Going into orientation, I was excited to start my journey at WSU, meet new people, and move away from home, but I was also very nervous. As a first-generation student, I didn’t have close family experience to guide me through what college would be like. I had completed my Associate of Arts degree through Running Start, so I had some idea of college expectations, but I was still unsure about jumping directly into upper-division (300–400 level) courses right after high school.

Orientation helped ease many of those concerns. Learning about campus resources made me feel more confident about finding community, staying on track to graduate, and handling more advanced coursework. Staying overnight in the residence halls also helped me picture what daily life at WSU would look like. After orientation, I felt more comfortable with the transition, and even my parents felt reassured seeing how excited I was to begin.

I am now a college junior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Public Relations. After graduating in Spring 2027, I plan to pursue a Master of Strategic Communication at WSU, expected in Spring 2028. Following that, I hope to serve as a Public Relations Officer in the United States Air Force and eventually advance into higher leadership roles.
